Informations supplémentaires:
Easton Lodge began as a Tudor manor however a fire in 1847 destroyed this original part of the manor and a new Victorian 'gothic' brick wing was built to replace it. In 1861 Frances 'Daisy' Maynard was born here and in 1865 at just 3 years old, she inherited the estate. She later married Lord Brooke, heir to the earldom of Warwick. Daisy, considered a beauty of her time became a noted society hostess, holding weekend house parties here to which the Prince of Wales and his Marlborough House Set were frequent guests. By 1895, she had tired of the social whirl and turned to socialism. In 1902, Daisy commissioned the famous garden designer Harold Peto to work on the gardens (most notably the sunken Italian Garden), and employed Salvation Army hostel inmates as labourers to construct it. In 1918, a further fire destroyed the Jacobean west wing which had been the private apartments of the Earl and Countess. The relatively small Warwick House that still stands today was rebuilt on part of the site as servants quarters. In 1938, Daisy died and in 1950. the Victorian manor was demolished by her son. The gardens became overgrown and dilapidated. The Gardens of Easton Lodge Preservation Trust are a charity restoring the gardens using a largely volunteer workforce and the gardens are open to the public on Thursdays through the spring and summer as well as Sundays once a month.
