Informations supplémentaires:
The Battle of Hastings was a decisive military conflict fought on 14 October 1066, marking the beginning of the Norman Conquest of England. The clash took place on Senlac Hill, near present-day Battle in East Sussex, resulting in a monumental victory for William, Duke of Normandy (later known as William the Conqueror) and the death of the last crowned Anglo-Saxon king, Harold Godwinson. ⚔️ Background and Context The conflict arose from a succession crisis following the death of King Edward the Confessor in January 1066. While Harold Godwinson seized the English throne, William claimed Edward had previously promised the crown to him. Before facing the Normans, King Harold's army had to march to the north of England to defeat a separate Viking invasion led by Harald Hardrada at the Battle of Stamford Bridge. Though victorious, the English army was severely exhausted and depleted by the time they hastily marched back south to confront William's newly landed forces at Pevensey
