Lakes and other water resources are threatened by climate change, but Bali is aware and ready to conserve_Forest ecosystem damage has caused lakes Buyan and Tamblingan, that support many villages in Buleleng regency of Bali, to shrink. A traditional community chief stated that the water level on both lakes has not increased even in rainy season, as reported by Kompas.com on 29 June 2021. Both lakes have shrunk approximately 100 meters, or equal to 4 meters dropped in water level since 2000, the report said._A report published on Science Daily on 23 Dec 2020 quoted a team of scientists who stated that inland lakes are threatened by climate change, but (generally) receiving less attention. However, Bali is an island where traditional communities and tourism practitioners consistently pay close attention to environmental issues, and water is considered holy._In 2019, a declaration was made by tourism industry stakeholders in the island to conserve their water resources. Bali also has a traditional, spiritual water management system (irrigation for agricultural landscape) that is a UNESCO World Heritage site._According to the 2022 report by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), as quoted by Circle of Blue on 1 March 2022, the water cycle (worldwide) is speeding up. Warming temperatures are causing rapid shifts between wet and dry, flood and drought. These impacts are not linear—they accelerate with more warming.
