Chinese people splash water in a big fountain to save water during a celebration for the Water-Splashing Festival in Jinghong city, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, southwest Chinas Yunnan province, 15 April 2010. Chinese Dai people and other ethnic groups are celebrating the Water-splashing Festival in different ways to save water amid the severe drought in southwest China. They no longer splash and spray water at will on streets but sprinkle water with flowers or join water fights in fountains in order to save water. More than 25 million people and about 18 million livestock were short of water, and some 8 million hectares of arable land was lying fallow in the provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region during the severe drought, according to the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.
