Japanese men's national soccer manager Akira Nishino announced 23 members of the Japanese team that will participate in the World Cup at Japan Football Association (JFA) House, head office of JFA, in Tokyo on May 31, 2018. Keisuke Honda, Shinji Kagawa and Shinji Okazaki were selected. Former coach Vahid Halilhodzic was fired by the JFA on April 9, and Nishino became his successor. 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14
