A traditional British pub meal of burger, chunky chips, salad and a fried egg with a soft, runny yolk is served on a plate beside a pint of beer, illustrating food safety concerns around eggs during a UK Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak in August 2026. The Food Standards Agency and UK Health Security Agency said investigations had identified potential links to eggs imported from outside the UK, particularly eggs supplied to restaurants, cafes and other catering businesses, while stressing that there was no evidence UK-produced eggs were affected. Official advice remained that British Lion marked or Laid in Britain assured hen eggs could be eaten raw or lightly cooked by most people, including many vulnerable groups, although severely immunocompromised people require specific medical advice. For people eating out who cannot be certain that eggs carry recognised UK assurance marks, young children, pregnant people, older adults and people with underlying health conditions were advised to choose eggs that are thoroughly cooked. The photograph therefore provides a topical editorial illustration of runny egg safety, Salmonella risk, food poisoning, restaurant hygiene, catering standards and consumer awareness. The fried egg, with its visibly liquid yolk, sits beside chips, a burger topped with melted cheese and salad, while a pint of beer completes the familiar pub food setting. The image is relevant to searches for British pub meals, fried eggs, soft yolk, runny eggs, egg safety, food hygiene, Salmonella outbreak, Salmonella Enteritidis, imported eggs, UK catering, restaurant food safety, FSA advice, UKHSA guidance, public health, foodborne illness, gastroenteritis, safe cooking, British Lion eggs, Laid in Britain, pub lunch, burger and chips, beer and food, traditional British food and August 2026 health news. It also reflects wider questions about egg sourcing, food provenance and how diners assess risk when ordering lightly cooked eggs away from home safely.
