. Oban Sheriff Court bilingual ramp access sign in English and Gaelic. Photographed on 17 August 2025. The recorded location is Oban, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, UK. Bilingual accessibility sign at Oban Sheriff Court, reading Sheriff Court and Cùirt an t-Siorraim and directing visitors to ramp access. The close-up records provision for wheelchair and step-free access at a Scottish public building, together with English and Gaelic language use. It offers editorial context for disability access, inclusive design, courts, justice services, public estates, equality requirements and Gaelic signage in Argyll and Bute. Oban grew around a sheltered bay on Scotland's west coast and expanded in the nineteenth century with steamship traffic and the arrival of the railway in 1880. It remains a major gateway to the Inner Hebrides, with CalMac ferries, rail and road connections concentrated around the waterfront. Tourism, seafood, island travel and maritime services all contribute to the town's modern economy. For judicial administration, the historical context is that police headquarters and stations record the administrative infrastructure behind everyday law enforcement; Buildings may change as forces consolidate estates, adopt new technology and move from traditional town-centre stations to larger operational hubs. Looking at language revival, the longer history is that bilingual public signage reflects the long history of Scottish Gaelic and modern efforts to increase its visibility in administration, transport and cultural life; English-Gaelic signs make language policy tangible in everyday streets and public buildings. The background to street furniture is that wayfinding developed from painted names and fingerposts into standardised road, rail and public-information systems; Local signs still retain distinctive typography or bilingual wording even within increasingly consistent national standards.
