The LNER A4 class No. 60009 “Union of South Africa” steam train going past Ely Cathedral, Cambs, on Thursday morning Dec 18th to take Christmas shoppers to York. Shoppers travelled to York in style by STEAM TRAIN today (Thurs) to enjoy the festivities in the cathedral city Passengers made the magical journey from Cambridge to York to do some last minute Christmas shopping. They travelled northwards through the countryside in the old-fashioned locomotive as Britain looks forward to a day of unseasonably warm weather. Temperatures in London are set to soar to 14C today - double the normal average temperature for this time of year. It is expected to be cloudy in England and Wales, with a risk of showers, whilst Scotland will continue to see colder weather and a possibility of winds along the North West coast. But the cold weather will return tomorrow (Fri) as the temperatures drop back down to the normal average for December. There is also a possibility of showers, which could turn wintry on higher ground in the North. By Saturday everywhere will see temperatures in the single figures and much of the country will enjoy a crisp and sunny winter~s day.
