Shot of a signpost on section 10 of the Green Chain Walk, as it passes through Summerhouse Hill Wood, Beckenham Place Park. Beckenham Place Park is the largest green space in the borough of Lewisham, covering 96 hectares, with large areas of ancient woodland ideal for informal woodland walks. The park is an important wildlife site and it also makes up part of the South East London Green Chain Walk and the regional Capital Ring. It also contains a 18 hole municipal pay and play golf course. The mansion house (a Grade II listed building) currently houses the golf clubhouse and a small cafe. Back in 1977 four London Boroughs and the Greater London Council got together to create 'The South East London Green Chain'. Today there are nearly 300 Green Chain open spaces which include some of the finest landscapes in South East London and cover an area seven times as large as the City of London itself. That’s the same as about 2500 football pitches! Section 10 of the Green Chain Walk passes from Crystal Place to beckenham Palce Park.
