Informations supplémentaires:
The Lee Valley Velodrome in Stratford, East London, is a striking piece of contemporary sports architecture designed by Hopkins Architects for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Located within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the building’s distinctive curved roof resembles a cyclist’s helmet and responds to the geometry of the track inside. The exterior is clad in sustainably sourced Western Red Cedar, while the interior features a 250-metre Siberian pine track built to Olympic standards. Designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind, the velodrome uses natural ventilation, extensive daylighting, and rainwater harvesting to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. After the Games, it became part of the Lee Valley VeloPark — a public cycling hub that includes BMX, mountain bike, and road circuits. Its elegant form, precision engineering, and warm natural materials have made it an enduring landmark of London’s Olympic legacy and a model for sustainable sports architecture.
