. Bottles of Ribena, Robinsons and other fruit drinks and concentrated squash are arranged across a supermarket drinks aisle in the UK. Bright orange, purple and clear packaging distinguishes flavours such as orange and blackcurrant, while shelf-edge labels allow shoppers to compare prices and promotions. Concentrated squash is a long-established British grocery product, designed to be diluted with water at home and sold as an alternative to ready-to-drink soft drinks. The display shows how major branded ranges compete for space alongside other fruit-flavoured beverages, using bottle shape, colour, flavour descriptions and promotional labels to stand out. Different bottle sizes also allow supermarkets to target family use, convenience and value, with the effective cost per serving depending on both price and dilution. The category has changed over time as manufacturers respond to concerns about sugar consumption, introducing reduced-sugar and no-added-sugar formulations as well as new flavours. For households, concentrated drinks can offer many servings from one bottle, making them relevant to conversations about grocery budgets and value during periods of food-price inflation. Plastic bottles dominate the shelf, also connecting everyday beverage shopping with wider questions about packaging waste, recycling and the environmental impact of single-use containers. Ribena is strongly associated with blackcurrant drinks in Britain, while Robinsons is a familiar squash brand, giving the scene an immediately recognisable UK grocery character. The tightly stocked shelves show the commercial importance of range and visual impact in supermarket merchandising, where neighbouring products compete within seconds for a shopper's attention. Concentrates occupy a distinctive place in the soft-drinks market because one bottle produces many servings after dilution, making price per prepared drink different from the shelf price alone.
