This MRT tunnel is not like all the others and not only because it isn't round. This one goes under the Singapore River. The entire 18.4km first phase route from Yio Chu Kang station to Outram station is now linked by viaduct or tunnel. These tunnels are rectangular because they were built using the cut-and-cover method. With its completion, all tunnelling work for Phase One of the Mass Rapid Transit system has been done.
