. Florists' review [microform]. Floriculture. rv, >^7'?^'?^v^ ' ..'- ?'•; > V f* mmh .THt> 59RISIS! ST. LOUIS HOLDS BIG FALL SHOW Combined with an array of the ''queen of autumn" larger than iri recent exhibitions of the Chrysanthemum Society of America, the fall flower display assembled by the St. Louis trade at the Coliseum this week forms the biggest and most finished autumn show in several years.. HE WAR deprived St. Louis of the national flower show projected for that city, but the florists of the metropolis, feeling the need of an exhibition to stir public interest in flowers, have put on at the Coliseum there this week a show which for size and finish is indeed of national caliber. What the St. Louis trade has done with little more than chrysanthe- mums to exhibit stimulates the imag- ination as to what might be accom- plished in their city in the spring of the year, with a larger variety of flow- ers and plants available. Of course, the Chrysanthemum Society of America—or some of its members—is responsible for a large part of the show in bulk, and such men as Charles H. Totty, Charles W. Johnson, Earl H. Mann, E. D. Smith, W. A. Kowe and others deserve due recognition for the quantity of excel- lent blooms they have put on the ex- hibition floor at great expense to them- selves and their firms. It is doubtful if so many blooms of the queen of au- tumn have been assembled in an ex- hibition hall before. The weather has been unseasonably warm, and those who have put the best stock on the floor say it would have been better had cooler weather given its help. Not that any but the most expert would criticise the quality of the stock, for it is most of it fine and none poor—some of the big blooms just lack that last bit of finish in development, that is all. The Coliseum at St. Louis is a big building. Little space is given to ap- ples this week, though the Missouri State Horticultural Society is holding its apple show in one end of the hall.
