Berlin, Tiergarten. The Bauhaus building, Bauhaus Archive, Museum of design is a documentation centre with exhibition spaces designed by Walter Gropius in 1964 & built by Alex Cvijanovic in the 1970s.The original, architecturally revolutionary, Bauhaus building was designed by Walter Gropius and built in Dessau in 1925.The Bauhaus Archive was founded in Darmstadt in 1960. As the collection grew, a dedicated museum building was planned on the Rosenhöhe in Darmstadt but was prevented by local politics. In 1971 the Bauhaus Archive moved to temporary accommodation in Berlin. The original plans were modified for the site location beside the Landwehrkanal and not much of Gropius' original 1964 design remains apart from shed roof silhouette. The changes to the plan were carried out by Alex Cvijanovic and Berlin architect, Hans Bandel. The Bauhaus Archive collects & displays art pieces, items, documents and literature which relate to the Bauhaus School of architecture
