With our children, after a continental breakfast, we went up the long hill to Sacro Monte, a place Friedrich Nietzsche and Lou Salomé visited, a place dedicated with a variety of cupolas and temple-like structures to the memory of Saint Francis of Assissi, whom the birds love and who died of exposure to the elements in the cave where he lived and the astonishing thing about it is that in this place Saint Francis seems to be very much alive and present. When no one is looking I like to come here very early in the morning (before the evil 'vigilessa' gets out of bed to police the terrain) and the Saluke dog, who loves running as much as he loves life, is inevitably overjoyed to be here. You can say I am crazy all you like but I feel the love of Saint Francis in this place - and we know how much the animals delighted him!
